Beacon Hill is now a Registered National Historic Landmark. Surviving the population and economic shifts of the past four centuries — from its humble beginnings to a home for Boston’s well-to-do to a center of Bohemianism — the historic “inhospitable steep slopes” of Beacon Hill continue to remain one of the nation’s best-preserved and most admired neighborhoods.
